Project Background

Generation of Sludge through Wastewater Treatment

Sludge is generated during the primary and secondary treatment of sewage. In Hong Kong, the sludge generated mainly comes from the Stonecutters Island Sewage Treatment Works (SCISTW) and the other 10 regional large STWs, through Chemically Enhanced Primary and Secondary Sewage Treatment Works respectively. The SCISTW contributes over 75% of total sludge production in Hong Kong.
